Watch Straps

May 03, 2022

The latest creation from ZULUDIVER is the innovativeHyrdaRibstrap. Constructed from premium high-quality 100% polyamide yarn, using a core-spun method, the durability of these straps has been tested and certified toBS EN 14362. The straps have a three-dimensional, multi-strand, appearance and this inspired the name HydraRib, after the multi-headed creature from Greek mythology.

The Hydra was a mythical creature eventually slain by Hercules. It had several serpent heads and seemed to be indestructible – a fitting name for one of our toughest straps yet. And since we have taken a voyage into Greek Mythology there was a rich collection of names for the individual straps. Come with us on an Odyssey as we explore the full range.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - AJAX

Ajax

The Ajax strap is dark green. Ajax was an epic warrior of great courage in Homer's book The Iliad, the classic tale of the Trojan War.  Famed for his strength and courage Ajax was a formidable force in the ancient story.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - SPARTA

Sparta

In red the Sparta is representative of the colour most associated with the story of the 300 Spartans. Most fictional representations show these elite warriors in red cloaks. In reality, Sparta was a city-state in Ancient Greece which became a hugely dominant military power and was famed for its warriors.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - ATHENA

Athena

In light blue, we represent Athena, the ancient goddess of wisdom, civilization, and the arts. She was the daughter of Zeus, the king of the Gods and the city capital in Greece is still named after her.  She was revered for her intellectual approach to war through strategy.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - ARES

Ares

Ares is the Greek god of courage and is the chosen name for the light green HydraRib. Ares was one of the Twelve Olympians and a son of Zeus and sister to Athena. He embodies the physical valour necessary for military success and was the battle partner of his sister. He came from Thrace which is a lush and green part of what was Ancient Greece.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - ICARUS

Icarus

Icarus escaped imprisonment from a tower using wax wings made by his father. He flew too close to the sun and the wings melted. The Icarus HydraRib strap is in gold to represent the sun, a key element in this most famous legend.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - ATLAS

Atlas

Atlas was a titan who held up the heavens and the sky for eternity. The black strap in the collection has been given the name Atlas to represent the heavens which were supported by this giant. His name is allegedly from an Ancient Greek word which translated to “very enduring”. A fitting name for a very robust Military style strap.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - CHRONOS

Chronos

The ancient Greek god of time and dreams had to appear in a new ZULUDIVER watch strap collection.  The Chronos strap is a light grey which will complement steel and titanium watches. Chronos was destined to remain in our own culture in the guise of “Father Time”, normally an old man with a white beard, and holding on to an hourglass.

HYDRARIB NATO WATCH STRAP - HERA

Hera

Queen of the Gods and wife of Zeus we pay homage to her in a dark regal blue. Daughter of Chronos, she is well very known from ancient times, especially from the Trojan War and as a guide for Jason and the Argonauts.
